Information

Rare freestanding sofa designed by Nanna Ditzel, produced by Søren Willadsen Møbelfabrik in Denmark, 1952. This early design by Ditzel exemplifies the organic and sculptural qualities that became hallmarks of her work and of postwar Danish modernism.

The sofa features a solid oak frame supporting a gently curved seat and backrest, newly upholstered in deep blue wool fabric. The form is defined by its continuous, embracing lines and slightly flared armrests, creating a soft and inviting silhouette. The rear view reveals a refined structural rhythm, where the vertical oak supports frame the upholstered body with a balanced interplay between solid wood and textile.

Nanna Ditzel (1923–2005) was among Denmark’s most innovative designers, known for her exploration of form, comfort, and craftsmanship. This piece, produced by Søren Willadsen—one of the foremost Danish cabinetmakers of the mid-century era—demonstrates her early commitment to organic functionalism and tactile materials.

The sofa remains in good vintage condition with minor signs of wear consistent with age. The upholstery has been newly renewed, and the oak frame shows a well-preserved patina.
