Finn Juhl side table
Exceptionally rare low table designed by Finn Juhl in 1961, produced by master cabinetmaker Niels Roth Andersen in Denmark. Only two examples of this model are known to exist, making it one of the rarest documented pieces in Juhl’s oeuvre and an important example of his late design period.
Executed in lacquered European cherry, the table’s construction reflects Juhl’s distinctive approach to furniture as an extension of sculptural form. The softly contoured tabletop, with its raised and precisely rounded edges, seems to hover lightly above the structure. This refined top is supported by four bronzed steel legs terminating in solid brass castors — a striking interplay between warm organic materiality and cool industrial precision.
As in much of Juhl’s later work, the table demonstrates his fascination with balance and tension — between craftsmanship and machine, between the tactile and the architectural. The compact proportions and subtle detailing reveal a designer fully in control of both form and nuance, while still experimenting with new expressions of modernism.
The table remains in good vintage condition with minor signs of age and gentle wear. A museum-quality piece, this rare design exemplifies Juhl’s ongoing pursuit of innovation, proportion, and sculptural clarity within the language of Danish modern furniture.
