Information

This rare desk, model BO-69 or Nyhavn, was designed by Finn Juhl and produced by Bovirke in Denmark in 1953. It features a teak tabletop with a warm natural tone, supported by a browned brass frame with slender, tapered legs that end in teak foot details. The desk incorporates a suspended drawer unit and a separate organizer box, both crafted in teak. The drawer fronts display a gradient of muted, colorful lacquered finishes, adding a subtle yet striking contrast to the organic wood and metal structure.

True to Juhl’s distinctive style, the design embraces asymmetry and floating elements, with an open, airy construction that visually lightens the piece. The wave-shaped drawer handles are sculptural details that blend functionality with refined form, embodying Juhl’s modernist and artistic approach.

Finn Juhl (1912–1989) was a Danish architect and designer celebrated for pioneering a sculptural, organic aesthetic in mid-century furniture, diverging from strict functionalism to create expressive, human-centered designs. His collaborations with manufacturers like Bovirke helped elevate Danish modernism internationally.

Bovirke specialized in high-quality craftsmanship and limited production, making pieces like this desk especially rare and collectible today.

The desk perfectly illustrates Juhl’s integration of artistic expression and practical function, combining warm teak, colored lacquer, and metal for a dynamic yet balanced composition.

Dimensions: 170 cm width, 85 cm depth, 70 cm height (66.9 x 33.5 x 27.6 inches). The desk is in good vintage condition with minor wear consistent with age.
