Willy Daro coffee tables
This very rare set of three coffee or side tables, designed by Willy Daro and produced in the 1970s for a nightclub in Belgium, is an exceptional representation of sculptural furniture design from the era. The ensemble combines bold geometric forms with refined material contrasts, reflecting Daro’s unique approach to luxury and decorative functionality.
Each table is constructed with a square pedestal base in matte black, offering visual solidity and grounding the composition. The base is minimal in detailing, acting as a visual counterweight to the richness of the tabletop. Rising from this foundation are brass tops, polished to a warm golden sheen and featuring intricate, hand-etched surface patterns. These abstract linear motifs resemble organic structures such as wood grain, sediment layers, or topographical contours, giving the pieces an expressive, almost landscape-like quality.
The brass tops exhibit a fine textural variation that enhances the handcrafted aesthetic and catches ambient light from different angles. This detailing lends the tables a tactile, decorative presence, while the lustrous brass finish introduces a sense of opulence. The juxtaposition of the reflective brass against the matte black pedestal further accentuates the sculptural clarity of the design.
Modular in concept, the tables can be arranged together to form a unified low table or separated and used independently as side tables. This versatility makes them suitable for both residential and commercial interiors, especially those that embrace bold modernist or Art Deco-inspired styles.
Willy Daro, a Belgian designer active in the postwar period, is celebrated for his luxurious use of materials such as brass, bronze, and exotic stones. His work often blurred the boundaries between fine art and functional furniture, resulting in pieces that are as visually impactful as they are practical.
Each table measures 88 cm in length, 54 cm in width, and 43.5 cm in height. In imperial units, this corresponds to approximately 34.6 inches long, 21.3 inches wide, and 17.1 inches high.
