Illum Wikkelsø easy chairs
The Venus easy chairs, designed by Illum Wikkelsø and produced by CFC Silkeborg in Denmark in 1972, are rare and distinctive examples of Scandinavian mid-century modern furniture. Crafted from solid rosewood, the chairs highlight the material’s rich reddish-brown tones and natural grain variations through sculptural detailing. Their structure features an exposed slatted backrest, subtly curved armrests, and a low-profile stance that combines stability with comfort.
The seating is upholstered in its original light green fabric, which remains in good condition with only minor signs of age-related wear. The tufted cushions enhance both the aesthetic appeal and support. The angled seat and ergonomic proportions reflect Wikkelsø’s focus on organic forms and user comfort, providing a relaxed seating experience.
Illum Wikkelsø was a prominent figure in Danish modernism, known for designs that balance functionality with sculptural elegance. His collaboration with CFC Silkeborg produced several noteworthy pieces, with the Venus model distinguished by its rare production and unique design expression.
The set includes two sizes: the larger chair measures 95 cm in width, 78 cm in depth, and 77 cm in height, with a seat height of 38 cm (37.4 x 30.7 x 30.3 inches, SH: 15 inches). The smaller chair measures 63 cm in width, 78 cm in depth, and 77 cm in height, with the same seat height of 38 cm (24.8 x 30.7 x 30.3 inches, SH: 15 inches).
