Cabinet

Information

This is a rare Scandinavian cabinet of unknown authorship, likely produced in Denmark during the 1960s. The piece combines meticulous marquetry with functional elegance, showcasing a high level of craftsmanship and materials typical of mid-century Danish cabinetry.

The cabinet is constructed primarily from walnut and rosewood. The exterior features a visually striking front composed of alternating diamond-pattern inlays in dark rosewood and lighter-toned walnut, forming an optical rhythm of elongated lozenges across the entire facade. This geometric motif emphasizes the symmetry and verticality of the piece while serving as a decorative statement.

The carcass is raised on a lightly framed base structure, also in walnut, joined with visible stretchers and fitted with brass-capped feet. The corners of the legs are subtly accented with rosewood tips, reinforcing a cohesive relationship between the body and the base. Along the bottom edge, three narrow drawers are integrated with rosewood pull handles and are flanked by two larger cabinet doors.

The interior layout is highly organized, featuring an array of shelves and smaller drawers in varying widths and depths, offering excellent storage flexibility. A notable detail is the integrated pull-out tray with a rosewood surface and shaped edge lip, suitable for writing or serving. The interiors are constructed in matching walnut, with adjustable shelving and finely finished drawer compartments for stationery or collectibles.

Though unsigned, the level of precision, the use of contrasting timbers, and the refined aesthetic are reminiscent of works by Danish masters such as Arne Vodder or Johannes Sorth. However, the piece remains unattributed and is likely a unique or limited-production work from a skilled Danish cabinetmaker.

The cabinet is in good vintage condition with small signs of use, including light surface marks and minor patina in areas of frequent contact. The finish remains consistent, and the structural integrity is intact.

Dimensions are 129 cm in width, 45 cm in depth, and 132 cm in height, which corresponds approximately to 50.8 inches wide, 17.7 inches deep, and 52 inches high.
