Carl Fagerlund wall lamps
This set of wall lamps features curved glass shades composed of thick, textured crystal with a repeating pattern of raised circular and faceted elements. The glass is clear and highly refractive, and its surface structure creates intricate light dispersion when illuminated. Each shade is mounted with small brass fasteners and backed by a brass reflector, visible from the lower opening, which contributes additional warmth to the emitted light. The form is vertically oriented and gently rounded, giving the lamps a sculptural yet refined presence on the wall.
The lamps were designed by Carl Fagerlund and produced by Orrefors in Sweden during the 1960s. Fagerlund collaborated extensively with Orrefors, designing lighting that highlighted the company’s expertise in pressed and cut crystal. His work is characterized by the integration of decorative glass techniques with functional lighting design, resulting in pieces that combine optical complexity with clear structural logic. Orrefors, one of Sweden’s most important glassworks, was known for high-quality craftsmanship and innovative approaches to crystal production throughout the mid-century period.
Stylistically, the lamps reflect Scandinavian modernism enriched with the more ornamental tendencies of mid-century glass design. The patterned crystal produces a distinctive radiating glow, and the brass components add a subtle contrasting warmth. The combination of materials and the geometric decoration give the model Venus a luxurious yet understated character.
Each lamp measures 15 × 11 × 25.5 cm, corresponding to approximately 5.9 × 4.3 × 10 inches. The set is in excellent condition with only small signs of usage consistent with age.
