Information

This is a set comprising a pair of easy chairs and one matching stool, model Falcon, designed by Norwegian furniture designer Sigurd Resell and produced by Vatne Møbler in Norway during the 1970s. The design is an iconic expression of Scandinavian modernism, known for its fusion of structural elegance, comfort, and minimalist styling.

The chairs and stool feature bent laminated beechwood frames in a natural medium-brown tone, shaped into an X-form base that provides both structural integrity and visual lightness. The seating elements are suspended within a sling-style configuration using canvas support, which is fastened to the frame with visible leather straps and metal hardware. This method of construction not only reinforces the flexibility of the seat but also highlights the technical ingenuity behind the design.

The cushions are upholstered in original cognac-toned leather with generous tufting that provides both ergonomic comfort and aesthetic warmth. The high-back chairs include integrated headrests for additional support. The materials have aged gracefully, with a consistent patina across the leather and beech surfaces, and signs of use visible throughout, in line with the set’s vintage origin.

Sigurd Resell (1920–2010) was a trained cabinetmaker and graduate of the National Academy of Craft and Art Industry in Oslo. He became well known for his work in industrial and furniture design, and the Falcon chair is among his most celebrated contributions. Designed in the early 1970s, the Falcon was part of a movement toward lightweight, mobile furniture that maintained the traditions of Scandinavian craftsmanship while engaging with modernist aesthetics. The chair was highly successful both within Norway and internationally, and remains a key example of mid-century Norwegian design.

Produced by Vatne Møbler, a company instrumental in the export of modern Norwegian furniture, the Falcon line represents a merging of industrial production and artisanal refinement.

Dimensions for each chair are 78 cm wide, 77 cm deep, and 100 cm high, with a seat height of 41 cm, equivalent to approximately 30.7 inches wide, 30.3 inches deep, 39.4 inches high, and a seat height of 16.1 inches. The overall condition is good vintage, retaining structural integrity and original material character.
