Information

This rare mid-century display cabinet was designed by Svante Skogh and produced by Seffle Möbelfabrik in Sweden during the 1950s. Constructed primarily from rosewood and beech, with a glass front and shelving, the piece exemplifies the refined craftsmanship and material contrasts characteristic of Swedish modern furniture of the period.

The cabinet is vertically oriented and elevated on tapered legs connected by integrated stretchers for additional stability. The legs end in slender brass sabots, which add a delicate decorative accent and enhance the cabinet’s visual lightness. The main body is veneered in richly figured rosewood, showcasing strong linear grain patterns with deep brown and golden tones, particularly prominent on the side panels and drawer fronts.

The upper section features a display case enclosed by sliding glass doors. The interior is painted a muted red, providing a striking contrast to the dark rosewood frame and serving as an elegant backdrop for displayed items. A single glass shelf is mounted on adjustable supports, allowing flexible shelf height.

Below the glazed section is a horizontal band of five small drawers. The drawer fronts are rosewood with visible dovetail joinery and fitted with turned wooden pulls. The interiors are lined with light beech, offering a subtle contrast to the darker exterior and demonstrating meticulous attention to internal finishes.

Svante Skogh (1923–1998) was a Swedish architect and designer noted for elegant and sometimes experimental forms that blended traditional joinery with modernist aesthetics. His work with Seffle Möbelfabrik produced several collectible pieces celebrated for their craftsmanship and distinctive Scandinavian style.

This cabinet is in very good condition, with minimal wear consistent with age and use. The rosewood finish remains clear and even, and the drawers operate smoothly.

Dimensions are 78.5 cm wide, 32 cm deep, and 140 cm high (approximately 30.9 by 12.6 by 55.1 inches).
