Ib Kofod-Larsen daybed
This rare sofa and daybed combination was designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen and produced by Seffle Möbelfabrik in Sweden during the 1960s. The piece features a solid teak frame with a gently curved apron and tapered legs, complemented by steel supports that brace the upholstered backrest from behind. It retains its original cream-colored fabric, patterned with alternating vertical brown and black stripes, though the upholstery shows signs of age and would benefit from replacement.
The design exhibits an angular and open form, emphasizing a visually light construction that aligns with the Scandinavian mid-century modern ethos. The seat transitions smoothly into an extended platform on one side, enabling the piece to function as both a conventional sofa and a daybed or lounge surface. The backrest is divided into two separate cushions, each mounted on metal brackets attached to a wooden crossbar. An additional single end cushion serves as either an armrest or pillow, reinforcing the dual-purpose nature of the design.
Ib Kofod-Larsen (1921–2003) was a prominent Danish designer known for his elegantly proportioned furniture that highlights organic shapes and material clarity. Active during the peak of the Scandinavian modern movement, he worked extensively across Denmark and Sweden, collaborating with manufacturers such as Seffle Möbelfabrik and Faarup Møbelfabrik. His designs are distinguished by their comfort, fluid forms, and architectural sensibility.
The sofa measures 190 cm in width, 100 cm in depth, and 72 cm in height, with a seat height of 38 cm. These dimensions correspond to approximately 74.8 inches wide, 39.4 inches deep, 28.3 inches high, and a seat height of 15 inches. The piece exemplifies Kofod-Larsen’s commitment to combining functional versatility with refined Scandinavian aesthetics.
