Information

This rare sideboard was designed by Danish designer Kai Kristiansen and produced by Preben Skov Andersen for PSA Møbler during the 1960s. It is crafted from richly grained rosewood, displaying a deep warm brown tone with subtle reddish undertones and highly figured, symmetrical patterns across the front and sides. The cabinet stands on a solid base with squared legs, complemented by brushed aluminum foot caps that harmonize with the minimalist aluminum door handles.

The sideboard’s form is rectilinear and horizontally oriented, defined by clean lines and sharp edges that embody Kristiansen’s functional yet refined modernist approach. The piece features four hinged doors that open to reveal ample internal storage, including shelving and a single shallow drawer. This internal configuration reflects practical mid-century storage needs while maintaining an architecturally minimal exterior.

Kai Kristiansen, born in 1929, trained under Kaare Klint at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and is celebrated for his elegant, precise designs combining warm wood tones with modernist proportions. Preben Skov Andersen, operating through PSA Møbler, worked with numerous Danish designers in the mid-20th century and was known for high-quality craftsmanship and attention to detail.

This sideboard exemplifies the Scandinavian modern movement of the mid-20th century, characterized by functional minimalism, natural materials, and expert woodworking. It remains in excellent vintage condition with minor signs of age-appropriate wear and a well-preserved rosewood veneer throughout.

The dimensions are 200 cm wide, 47 cm deep, and 73 cm high, approximately 78.7 x 18.5 x 28.7 inches.
