Börje Johanson dining table

This very rare dining table was designed by Börje Johanson and produced by Johanson Design in Sweden during the 1960s. The table features a circular top crafted from white Carrara marble, distinguished by subtle grey veining throughout. The marble surface has a honed finish that preserves its natural matte texture and showcases the soft, cloudy patterns characteristic of Italian Carrara marble. The tabletop is relatively thin, lending a sense of lightness despite the substantial weight of the stone.

Supporting the marble top is a solid brass pedestal base with a warm golden tone. The columnar stem flows smoothly into a flared circular foot, reflecting organic and modernist influences in its design. The brass surface has developed a natural patina and displays oxidation marks, especially around the base edges, which add depth and authenticity to the piece.

Börje Johanson was a notable Swedish designer whose modernist furniture gained prominence in the post-war decades, particularly the 1960s and 70s. His work is recognized for Scandinavian refinement in material choices and silhouettes, combined with a broader international sensibility regarding form and proportion. Johanson collaborated closely with Johanson Design, founded in 1953, a company renowned for producing high-quality, innovative furniture for both public and private interiors.

This table exemplifies the blend of sculptural modernism and luxurious materiality characteristic of 1960s Scandinavian design. The table is in very good condition, with age-appropriate wear on the brass and an intact marble surface showing only minor signs of use.
