Information

These very rare table lamps were designed by Lisa Johansson-Pape and produced by Orno in Finland during the 1950s. The design features a harmonious combination of opaline glass, brass, and perforated metal, creating a compelling interplay between materials and light diffusion. The base is crafted from opaline glass shaped into a tapered cylindrical form with a smooth, matte finish that softly diffuses light from within.

The upper section is composed of a brass mesh lampshade, presenting a geometric perforated pattern that allows light to pass through in an atmospheric and decorative manner. Inside this brass shade, an additional opaline glass diffuser further softens the emitted light, reducing glare while maintaining balanced brightness. This layering of materials highlights Johansson-Pape’s skill in manipulating light to enhance both function and aesthetic appeal.

Lisa Johansson-Pape (1907–1989) was a Finnish designer acclaimed for her innovative lighting designs that prioritize both utility and elegance. Her collaboration with Orno, a leading Finnish lighting manufacturer, helped bring international attention to Finnish contributions in modern Scandinavian lighting. Johansson-Pape’s work is marked by simple, elegant forms combined with advanced techniques for light diffusion.

Orno was a prominent Finnish lighting company during the mid-20th century, collaborating with influential designers to produce high-quality, functional, and visually striking lighting products. The company played a vital role in the evolution of Scandinavian lighting design.

These lamps exemplify mid-century Scandinavian design principles, characterized by clean lines, superior materials, and atmospheric lighting effects. The contrast between the frosted opaline glass bases and the structured brass mesh shades demonstrates Johansson-Pape’s ability to blend industrial and organic elements into a unified and timeless design.

Both lamps are in excellent vintage condition, showing only slight age-related patina on the brass components. Each lamp measures 22 cm in diameter and 40 cm in height (8.7 x 15.7 inches).
