Floor lamp
This rare adjustable floor lamp, produced in Sweden during the 1940s, features a brass construction paired with a pleated fabric shade. The lamp is designed with a curved, articulated arm extending from a vertical stem, allowing for flexible positioning and precise adjustment of the light source. Its round, weighted base ensures stability. The brass elements display a patina consistent with age, contributing to the lamp’s vintage character and historical authenticity.
The pleated fabric shade is conical with a wide diameter, softly diffusing the emitted light. Beneath the shade, a decorative brass diffuser with small star-shaped perforations enhances the ambient glow while minimizing glare, adding both function and subtle ornamentation.
This lamp reflects the mid-century Scandinavian modern design ethos, emphasizing minimal decoration, organic shapes, and meticulous craftsmanship. The adjustable arm makes the lamp practical for reading or task lighting. Although the designer is unknown, its style closely aligns with the work of designers such as Hans Bergström and others who skillfully combined brass and fabric to create warm and inviting lighting solutions.
The lamp measures approximately 60 cm in width, 130 cm in depth, and 167 cm in height (23.6 x 51.2 x 65.7 inches). It shows typical signs of wear and oxidation on the brass components, consistent with its vintage age.
