Hans-Agne Jakobsson floor lamp
This very rare floor lamp, model G-20, was designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden during the 1950s. The lamp exemplifies mid-century Scandinavian lighting design, balancing elegant form with functional innovation. It features a slender brass stem rising from a black lacquered conical base and supports a distinctive white lacquered metal shade composed of stacked horizontal rings.
The layered construction of the shade allows for indirect light diffusion, effectively reducing glare and producing a soft ambient glow. A circular brass loop near the top of the lamp serves as a signature design detail, enhancing its sculptural quality. Over time, the brass components have developed a natural patina, while the lacquered surfaces remain well-preserved, showing only minor signs of wear.
Hans-Agne Jakobsson was a pioneering Swedish lighting designer, renowned for exploring the interplay of light and shadow through diffused and layered lighting elements. His company became a leading producer of high-quality Scandinavian lighting fixtures during the mid-century era.
The lamp measures 137 cm in height with a shade diameter of 20 cm (53.9 x 7.9 inches). The combination of brass, black lacquered metal, and white lacquered elements creates a balanced visual contrast, characteristic of Jakobsson’s refined and functional aesthetic. The overall condition is consistent with its age, exhibiting minor wear on the metal surfaces.
