Nybro Armaturfabrik ceiling lamps
This rare and large-scale ceiling lamp was produced by Nybro Armaturfabrik (NAFA) in Sweden during the 1980s. The design is attributed to an unknown designer and reflects a late modernist Scandinavian approach, emphasizing industrial clarity and sculptural simplicity.
The lamp is constructed from chrome-plated steel and opaline white acrylic, featuring a composition of vertically suspended geometric elements. The central structure is defined by two parallel chrome rods descending from a matching chrome ceiling mount. These rods support a wide, flat acrylic disc and a hemispherical diffuser beneath it, creating a balanced spatial arrangement with strong architectural overtones. The diffuser is encased in a chrome ring, enhancing the contrast between the matte and reflective surfaces of the components.
The chrome elements are finely finished, while the translucent acrylic components diffuse light evenly, minimizing glare and emphasizing ambient illumination. The proportions and minimal decoration suggest the lamp was designed for professional or institutional use, possibly intended for public or commercial interiors in the late modern period. The overall aesthetic aligns with Scandinavian post-functionalism and late twentieth-century contract lighting design.
The lamp is in good condition, with light signs of age-related wear and minor surface marks on both the chrome and acrylic components, consistent with its use.
The dimensions of the lamp are 80 cm in diameter and 220 cm in height, corresponding to approximately 31.5 inches in diameter and 86.6 inches in height.
