Henrik Blomqvist table lamp

This table lamp was designed by Henrik Blomqvist and produced in Sweden by AB Stilarmatur Tranås during the 1960s. The lamp features a sculptural base composed of three large, rounded elements turned from rosewood, separated and accented by slender connectors in polished brass. The rosewood presents a rich grain pattern with contrasting dark and light striations, contributing a strong organic visual character. The geometry of the stacked wood forms is symmetrical and bulbous, combining with the reflective metallic joints to emphasize balance and rhythm.

The lampshade is wide and conical in shape, executed in black material with a gold-colored interior. This inner surface enhances the downward illumination by adding warmth and a subtle ambient glow. The contrasting black and gold coloring of the shade complements the dark tones of the wood and the brightness of the brass, creating a striking mid-century visual contrast while maintaining an overall cohesive palette.

Henrik Blomqvist’s design language in this lamp reflects a broader Scandinavian modernist approach that values tactile materials, clarity of form, and functional elegance. The use of rosewood—particularly prized in the 1960s for its decorative grain—and the weight and warmth of brass reflect the period’s emphasis on quality craftsmanship and natural materials. The lamp remains in very good vintage condition. The rosewood components show a well-preserved patina with minor age-related marks, and the brass connectors exhibit mild oxidation consistent with the period. The shade is clean, with the inner gold lining intact and reflective.

The lamp measures 40 cm in diameter and 63 cm in height, which corresponds to approximately 15.7 inches in diameter and 24.8 inches in height.
