Holger Johansson ceiling lamp
This very rare and large ceiling lamp, designed by Swedish designer Holger Johansson and produced by Westal in Sweden during the 1950s, is a striking example of Scandinavian mid-century modern lighting. Crafted from brass, the chandelier features a warm, golden patina that enhances its timeless elegance. Its design includes two tiers of arms extending from a central brass column, each supporting hand-blown glass globes with a lightly smoked, bubbled texture. These globes softly diffuse the light while creating a visually captivating effect.
Johansson’s work is noted for its innovative use of materials and modular arrangements, merging geometric precision with organic forms, which this lamp beautifully exemplifies. Westal, known for its craftsmanship and quality in Scandinavian lighting, produced this lamp as part of its distinguished collection.
The lamp is in very good vintage condition, with a rich patina on the brass reflecting its age and use. The dimensions are 110 cm in diameter, 60 cm in height for the fixture, and a total height including the rod of 260 cm (43.3 x 23.6 x 102.4 inches).
