Paavo Tynell floor lamp
This very rare and early floor lamp, model K10-10, was designed by Paavo Tynell, a prominent Finnish designer known for his exceptional metalwork and contribution to Scandinavian Modern lighting. Produced by Idman, one of Finland’s foremost lighting manufacturers during the mid-20th century, this lamp reflects the collaboration between two key figures in Finnish design history. Tynell’s work is distinguished by its elegant craftsmanship and refined attention to detail, which helped shape the lighting design language of the 1950s.
The lamp features a conical shade made from black lacquered metal, with a white interior designed to diffuse light evenly. The shade’s rim is adorned with fine perforations, a signature element in Tynell’s designs that adds a decorative effect when the lamp is illuminated. The adjustable armature is crafted from polished brass, exemplifying the meticulous workmanship and material quality that characterize Tynell’s approach.
The lamp’s stand is wrapped in natural cane, providing a warm, tactile contrast to the metal components. This blend of materials is representative of Scandinavian Modern ideals, which emphasize both functionality and understated beauty through the integration of natural textures and clean design.
The lamp is in excellent vintage condition, maintaining its original patina and features consistent with its production era. Its dimensions are 25.5 cm wide, 40 cm deep, and 148 cm high, approximately 10 inches by 15.7 inches by 58.3 inches.
