Harald Notini floor lamp
This rare floor lamp, model 15084, was designed by Harald Notini and produced by Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik in Sweden during the 1930s. The lamp exemplifies a blend of Art Deco styling with early Scandinavian modern design, manifested through its metal construction accented by green and black lacquered finishes. This combination reflects a transitional period in Swedish lighting design where decorative elegance met emerging modernist principles.
The lamp’s structure features a slender, curved metal stem supporting a large domed metal shade. The shade’s exterior is lacquered in green, contrasting with a gold-toned interior that enhances light reflection and creates a warm, atmospheric glow. The shade is mounted on an adjustable joint, allowing directional control of the light. A pull-chain switch extends from the shade, adding both practical functionality and a refined design detail. Stability is provided by a circular black lacquered metal base, which includes a central silver-toned metal accent, balancing the overall composition visually and structurally.
Harald Notini was a distinguished Swedish designer and lighting architect known for combining classical influences with modernist clarity and function. Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik was a leading Swedish lighting manufacturer during the early 20th century, recognized for quality craftsmanship and innovative designs. Together, this collaboration produced lighting fixtures of notable historical and design significance.
The lamp is preserved in well-maintained condition with minor wear consistent with age, particularly on the lacquered surfaces. The metal elements display a naturally aged patina, adding authenticity and depth to the piece. The pull-chain switch and original fittings are intact, ensuring both the lamp’s operational functionality and originality.
The lamp measures 39 cm in width and 65 cm in depth, with a height adjustable between 127 and 146 cm (15.4 x 25.6 inches, adjustable from 50 to 57.5 inches), making it a distinctive example of early Swedish modern lighting design with practical and decorative qualities.
