Vicke Lindstrand vase
This glass vase was designed by Vicke Lindstrand and produced by Kosta Glasbruk in Sweden during the 1960s. It is signed “LH 1194 Lindstrand Kosta” confirming its authenticity and place within Kosta’s mid-century production. The vase features an elongated, tapered form with a narrow opening at the top, supported by a small, slightly flared pedestal base.
The design showcases an internal deep blue core that rises into elongated, flame-like streaks, encased within a thick layer of clear glass. This effect, achieved through the Sommerso technique, creates an illusion of depth and movement within the piece. The polished surface interacts with light to enhance the fluidity and dynamic nature of the internal structure.
Vicke Lindstrand (1904–1983) was one of Sweden’s leading glass designers, celebrated for his contributions to modern Scandinavian glass art. Beginning his career at Orrefors and later joining Kosta in 1950, Lindstrand introduced a more sculptural and expressive approach to glassmaking. His work is distinguished by organic forms, strong color contrasts, and mastery of advanced glassblowing techniques.
Kosta Glasbruk, founded in 1742, is Sweden’s oldest operating glassworks, renowned internationally for its high-quality art glass. Under designers like Lindstrand, Kosta produced iconic mid-century pieces that combine exceptional craftsmanship with artistic innovation.
This vase is in excellent condition, showing minimal signs of wear. It measures 8.5 centimeters in diameter and 34.5 centimeters in height (approximately 3.3 x 13.6 inches).
