Information

This bronze sculpture titled Stenblomman 3 was created by Christian Berg in 1955 and cast by Erik Pettersson Fud. The work is executed in polished bronze and mounted on a square stone base, forming a compact yet vertically oriented composition characteristic of Berg’s abstract sculptural language. The surfaces combine smooth planes with subtly faceted transitions, producing alternating reflections across the curved and angular sections of the form.

The sculpture demonstrates Berg’s interest in purified, organic abstraction shaped through controlled geometry. The elongated body rises from the base in a continuous upward motion, interrupted by recessed and carved-out volumes that create a rhythmic interplay of light and shadow. These formal qualities relate to Berg’s mid-century exploration of spatial tension and reduction, in which figurative references are distilled into symbolic or architectural gestures.

Christian Berg, one of Sweden’s most influential modernist sculptors, developed his mature style during the 1930s–1950s. His works frequently merge biomorphic and constructivist tendencies, expressing movement and growth through refined simplicity. Stenblomman, or Stone Flower, is among the series of works in which Berg explored metamorphic forms, anchoring them in polished bronze to emphasize their tactile and reflective qualities.

The piece is in good vintage condition with signs of usage and a well-developed patina. The bronze surface shows light wear and oxidation, consistent with age, while the stone base remains stable with minor marks.

Dimensions: 10 × 10 × 32 cm (approximately 3.9 × 3.9 × 12.6 inches).
