Candlestick
This counterweight candlestick, designed in the manner of W\.A.S. Benson, exemplifies early modernist metalwork that harmonizes functionality with an elegant mechanical aesthetic. The structure features a gracefully curved arm extending from a weighted sphere, balanced on two sculpted legs. The counterweight mechanism ensures stability while allowing the balance to be adjusted as needed. The candle holder is positioned at the end of the extended arm and includes a flared dish designed to catch wax drips.
W\.A.S. Benson (1854–1924) was a British designer and metalworker associated with the Arts and Crafts movement. Renowned for his innovative use of brass and copper, Benson produced lighting and household objects that combined traditional craftsmanship with an industrial and mechanical sensibility. His designs frequently incorporated counterbalance mechanisms, geometric forms, and precise engineering, resulting in pieces that were both decorative and highly functional.
