Hans-Agne Jakobsson candlestick

This exceptionally rare candlestick was designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden. It features three tall cylindrical glass shades in amber, each positioned on a brass tripod arm radiating from a central point. The amber glass, characterized by its smooth, transparent surface and warm honey tone, provides a softly diffused glow when candles are lit. The glass cylinders are uniform in size and gently rounded at the rim, accentuating their elegant vertical form.

The brass frame is constructed from a series of curved rods that intertwine to form a dynamic and sculptural composition. These curves converge at a central brass sphere, which functions as both a visual anchor and structural joint. The arms extend gracefully outward and upward, terminating in holders that securely support the glass tubes. The brass exhibits a gentle patina consistent with age, contributing to the authenticity of the piece without compromising its integrity or finish.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was a prominent Swedish designer renowned for his sophisticated lighting and his ability to manipulate form and material to achieve warm, atmospheric effects. His studio, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB, was based in Markaryd and produced a wide range of designs from the 1950s to the 1970s. Jakobsson’s work is characterized by its focus on indirect lighting, organic silhouettes, and modernist restraint, which are all evident in this candlestick.

The design exemplifies Scandinavian modernism with its functional layout and artistic sculptural presence. It combines clarity of form with refined material contrast—warm-toned brass and rich amber glass—typical of mid-century Nordic decorative arts.

The dimensions are 31.5 cm in height and 27.5 cm in diameter (12.4 inches high and 10.8 inches in diameter). The piece is in excellent vintage condition, with the brass showing only minor signs of age and the glass shades free from chips or cracks.
