Information

This rare and large glass vase was designed by Kjell Blomberg and produced by Gullaskruf Glasbruk in Sweden in 1963. It exemplifies Scandinavian modern glass design from the mid-20th century, combining technical precision with sculptural simplicity. The vase is crafted from pale olive-green blown glass, featuring a bulbous, teardrop form that tapers gently toward the neck. The surface is smooth and subtly curved, allowing light to be softly refracted through the thin-walled, translucent glass. The rim is slightly asymmetrical, marked by a small, controlled spout-like pinch that introduces a delicate decorative detail within the otherwise minimalist silhouette.

Kjell Blomberg (1931–1989) worked at Gullaskruf from the 1950s through the 1970s, and his designs are recognized for their clarity of form and exploration of volume and lightness in blown glass. Gullaskruf, located in the Småland region of Sweden, was a prominent glassworks during the postwar golden age of Swedish glass design. The company was notable for collaborating closely with a new generation of designers who brought more sculptural and modernist sensibilities to glass production, moving beyond traditional decorative styles.

This vase embodies Blomberg’s focus on pure lines and the expressive qualities of subtle asymmetry. Its large scale and soft olive-green coloration create a balanced presence, allowing the piece to function both as a vessel and as a standalone sculptural object. The condition is excellent, with no chips or cracks and only minor wear on the base consistent with age and use.

The dimensions are 24 cm in diameter and 31 cm in height (approximately 9.4 x 12.2 inches).
