Bengt Orup vases

This set of four glass vases was designed by Bengt Orup and produced by Johansfors Glasbruk in Sweden during the 1960s. Orup, a prominent figure in Swedish glass design, was known for his modernist sensibility, favoring sleek, minimalist forms paired with refined color transitions.

Each vase features an elongated, tapered silhouette culminating in a narrow, flared neck. The glass displays a gradient effect, shifting from a deep green at the top to clear near the base. This ombré shading is characteristic of Orup’s design approach, highlighting the fluidity and lightness of the glass while enhancing its sculptural quality.

Hand-blown craftsmanship is evident in the set, with subtle variations in shape that contribute to the individuality of each vase. The tallest measures 37 centimeters (14.6 inches) in height with a diameter of 8.5 centimeters (3.3 inches), while the second tallest stands 28 centimeters (11 inches) high with a diameter of 7.5 centimeters (3 inches). These pieces collectively reflect the understated elegance and technical skill typical of mid-century Scandinavian glasswork.
