Aksel Kjersgaard dressing table
This dressing table, model no. 40, was designed and produced by Aksel Kjersgaard in Denmark during the 1950s. It is a refined example of Scandinavian mid-century craftsmanship, balancing elegant form, rich materiality, and practical function.
Constructed from rosewood, the table showcases a highly figured grain with deep, warm tones and organic patterns that enhance its visual appeal. The design is marked by clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic, incorporating integrated storage solutions to emphasize usability. The piece includes two drawers featuring circular cut-out handles, a central open compartment, and a concealed mirror that can be lifted into place. The mirror is equipped with two hinged side panels, allowing for adjustable viewing angles. Four slender legs, connected by a horizontal stretcher, support the table, providing stability while maintaining a light and graceful silhouette.
Aksel Kjersgaard was a Danish furniture designer celebrated for his meticulous craftsmanship and use of premium materials. His work embodied the principles of Danish modernism, prioritizing simplicity, functionality, and superior quality. Kjersgaard’s pieces, particularly those crafted from rosewood and teak, remain highly desirable for their timeless elegance and understated sophistication.
The dressing table measures 118 cm in width, 43 cm in depth, and 68 cm in height (46.5 x 16.9 x 26.8 inches), with the mirror extending the total height to 115 cm (45.3 inches). It is in well-preserved condition, showing minor wear consistent with its age, especially on the rosewood surfaces.
