Alf Svensson & Yngvar Sandström table
This rare side table or bureau was designed by Alf Svensson and Yngvar Sandström in the 1960s and produced by Fröseke AB, a Swedish manufacturer recognized for finely crafted furniture that often combined metalwork with traditional Scandinavian wood construction. Both designers were influential figures in the development of Swedish modernist aesthetics during the mid-century period.
The piece is constructed from rosewood, exhibiting a rich dark reddish-brown tone with expressive grain patterns prominently displayed on the drawer fronts. It is supported by a minimalist brass frame featuring slender square-section legs and a continuous brass apron. This combination creates a striking visual contrast between the warm metallic base and the deep hues of the rosewood. The design is rectilinear and understated, consisting of two wide drawers fitted with small circular brass pulls that subtly reference the brass frame.
With its low, elongated proportions, the bureau is well suited for use as a hallway table or media bench. The piece is preserved in very good vintage condition, showing a light patina on the brass and minor wear consistent with its age.
The dimensions are 106 centimeters (41.7 inches) in width, 40 centimeters (15.7 inches) in depth, and 47 centimeters (18.5 inches) in height. This bureau exemplifies the seamless integration of materials and the refined aesthetic typical of Swedish mid-century design.
