Information

This rare and early example of the iconic Egg chair, model 3316, designed in 1958 by Arne Jacobsen, is presented together with its matching stool, model 3127. Produced by Fritz Hansen in Denmark in 1967, this set represents one of the most recognisable and influential pieces of 20th-century furniture design, known for its sculptural presence and organic form.

The chair’s enveloping, egg-shaped silhouette was originally conceived for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, where Jacobsen sought to create a sense of privacy and comfort in open public spaces. Its pioneering use of a moulded foam shell over a steel frame resulted in a distinctive, fluid shape that is both visually striking and ergonomically supportive. This early version is upholstered in original cognac brown leather, which has developed a rich and appealing patina over time, adding depth and character to the piece. The aluminium base provides both strength and elegance, while the swivel mechanism ensures full functionality.

The matching stool shares the same organic lines and refined craftsmanship, designed to complement the Egg chair’s sculptural form. Together, they embody the essence of mid-century Scandinavian design: a perfect synthesis of form, function, and timeless aesthetics.

This set remains in good vintage condition, with visible signs of age and use that attest to its authenticity and history.
