Arne Vodder desk

This rare freestanding desk, model Bo 85, was designed by Arne Vodder and produced by Bovirke in Denmark during the 1950s. The desk combines teak and oak with brass details, reflecting the refined material choices typical of Danish mid-century modern furniture. Its asymmetrical top features an organically shaped design, accented by a slightly raised edge along one side that adds both functional and visual interest.

The structure is supported by slender, tapered legs, reinforced with horizontal stretchers for added stability. Beneath the desktop hangs a suspended drawer unit finished in teak, containing two drawers fitted with brass handles. The desk’s asymmetrical form offers versatile placement options, serving well as a freestanding writing desk or as a functional workstation with storage.

Arne Vodder was celebrated for his sophisticated furniture designs that emphasized organic forms and meticulous craftsmanship. His work for Bovirke is distinguished by sculptural aesthetics combined with practical design solutions, making pieces like this desk highly valued within Scandinavian modernism.

The desk measures 155.5 cm in width, 115 cm in depth at its widest point (narrowing to 71 cm), and 68.5 cm in height (61.2 x 45.3/28 x 27 inches). It is in excellent vintage condition, showing minor wear consistent with its age.
