Arne Vodder dining chairs

This rare set of eight dining chairs, model 462, was designed by Arne Vodder and produced by Sibast Møbelfabrik in Denmark in 1961. Executed in rosewood with original linen upholstery, these chairs exemplify the refined craftsmanship and sculptural elegance characteristic of Vodder’s work.

The frames are made of richly grained rosewood, displaying the natural depth and variation of the wood with a warm, expressive tone. The construction emphasizes clean lines with a subtle sculptural quality, particularly visible in the tapering legs and gently curved backrest supports. The seat and back are upholstered in the original linen fabric, which introduces a soft, tactile contrast to the dark rosewood. The fabric retains its authenticity but shows visible signs of use and light staining, consistent with age and careful domestic use.

Arne Vodder, a Danish architect and furniture designer, was one of the most prominent figures of mid-century Scandinavian design. Trained under Finn Juhl, Vodder’s work is marked by an understated elegance, functional clarity, and a sensitivity to materials. His collaborations with Sibast Møbelfabrik resulted in some of his most celebrated designs, which were exported widely and remain highly regarded today for their combination of functionality and sculptural form.
