Information

This rare pair of wall-mounted candlesticks was designed and handcrafted by Arthur Pettersson in his own workshop in Kolbäck, Sweden during the 1950s. These brass sconces exemplify mid-century Scandinavian craftsmanship with a distinctly modern sculptural vocabulary and a strong emphasis on form and balance.

The design consists of a circular brass backplate with an open center, from which extends a short cylindrical candleholder. A slender rod descends vertically from the candleholder, terminating in a flat, solid brass disc that serves as both counterweight and decorative punctuation. The brass has a rich, natural patina, giving depth and warmth to the surface, while retaining subtle tool marks that highlight its handcrafted origin.

The silhouette is both geometric and kinetic, playing on balance and tension. The long pendulum-like element gives the piece a sense of visual motion, while its function remains grounded in simplicity. When mounted, the pair creates a dynamic interplay on the wall, combining symmetry and slight irregularities in the handcrafted elements.

Dimensions are 7.5 centimeters in width (2.95 inches), 7 centimeters in depth (2.75 inches), and 21 centimeters in height (8.27 inches). The pieces remain in very good vintage condition, with signs of natural aging, minor surface oxidation, and a preserved maker’s mark etched into the reverse reading “Arthur Pettersson, Kolbäck”

Arthur Pettersson was a Swedish artisan known for his meticulous, small-scale production of metalwork in the postwar period. His pieces are now rare and collectible due to their low production numbers and individually finished character.
