Information

Rare ceramic vase designed by Berndt Friberg, produced by Gustavsberg in Sweden in 1975. The vase is executed in stoneware with a finely worked glaze in dark brown tones with subtle variations, creating a textured surface that emphasizes its tactile qualities. The body has a balanced, ovoid form with a narrow neck and slightly flared rim, a hallmark of Friberg’s refined sense of proportion and mastery of glaze techniques.

Berndt Friberg (1899–1981) was one of Sweden’s most important ceramic artists, renowned for his small-batch studio production at Gustavsberg. Each of his pieces was hand-thrown and finished to exacting standards, with glazes developed through years of experimentation. Friberg’s work is celebrated for its quiet elegance, minimalism, and perfection in form, embodying the ideals of Scandinavian modernism.

This example, dated 1975 and signed at the base, reflects his late period production, characterized by deeper tonal glazes and a sculptural purity of form. The piece is in good vintage condition, with minor signs of age and use.

Diameter 19 cm (7.5 inches), Height 19 cm (7.5 inches).
