Bernt Petersen sofa

This rare two-seat sofa was designed by Danish architect and furniture designer Bernt Petersen in 1964 and produced by the workshop Wørts Møbelsnedkeri in Denmark. The sofa showcases a classic Scandinavian modern aesthetic, distinguished by its clarity of form, warm materiality, and understated elegance. The frame is constructed in solid oak, presenting a golden tone with rich wood grain that complements the handwoven cane panels used on both sides and across the backrest.

The sofa features original black leather upholstery on both seat and backrest cushions, arranged in two individual sections. The cushions show notable patina, creasing, and areas of soft surface wear consistent with regular use. The condition is overall good vintage, with minor imperfections visible on the cane—such as small breaks and loosening—and light wear on the oak armrests, particularly on the edges, which bear some minor dents and scuffing.

Bernt Petersen, who trained under Kaare Klint and was known for his refined sense of proportion and material discipline, designed furniture that was both architecturally informed and deeply rooted in Danish cabinetmaking tradition. His collaboration with Wørts Møbelsnedkeri resulted in limited-run, finely crafted pieces that emphasized structural honesty and functional integrity.
