Boréns floor lamp
This is a height-adjustable floor lamp produced by Boréns of Sweden in the 1950s. The lamp is constructed from brass and features a modern conical lampshade, newly added in a neutral white textile. The lamp exemplifies Swedish mid-century lighting design through its balance of minimal form, practical function, and quality materials.
The structure is built from tubular brass with a satin finish that has developed a warm natural patina from age and use. The lower section consists of a circular brass base from which a single bent support rod rises and is anchored by an additional diagonal brace, creating a visually stable yet slender triangular profile. The upper section of the stem is telescopic, allowing for smooth height adjustment, and topped with an angular bend terminating in a pivot-mounted brass lamp holder. The white conical shade provides focused directional light and complements the golden brass tones of the body.
The condition is good with full functionality. The brass shows minor scuffs, surface marks, and darkened areas consistent with age. The replacement lampshade is clean and in excellent condition. The mechanical joint and height adjustment are intact and operable.
Boréns was an important lighting manufacturer during the mid-20th century, known for producing quality fixtures for residential and institutional interiors. Their designs frequently featured clean lines and refined proportions, contributing to the broader Scandinavian modern movement. This piece aligns with that legacy, combining engineering precision with an understated sculptural presence.
The lamp measures 20 cm in depth, 45 cm in width, and is height adjustable from 88 cm to 130 cm. These dimensions translate to approximately 7.87 inches deep, 17.72 inches wide, and a height range from 34.65 inches to 51.18 inches.
