Börje Johanson bar stools

This set of three bar stools, model Classic, was designed by Börje Johanson and produced by Johanson Design in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1960s. The stools are constructed with a flaring trumpet-shaped base in brass, paired with circular footrests and upholstered seats in black imitation leather. The composition emphasizes clear geometric forms: a round base, a slender vertical support, a ring-shaped footrest, and a circular padded seat.

The materials reflect the Scandinavian approach of the period, combining metal and upholstery to achieve both durability and comfort. The brass has developed a natural patina over time, while the imitation leather retains its texture and sheen with surface creases that document its age and use. Together, the stools illustrate Johanson Design’s contribution to modern interiors, supplying practical yet visually refined furniture suited for both public and private environments.

Börje Johanson founded Johanson Design in 1953, and the company became widely recognized for its production of modern seating, characterized by functional clarity and contemporary styling.
