Börje Johanson bar stools
This set of four bar stools, model “Classic” was designed by Börje Johanson and produced by Johanson Design in Markaryd, Sweden during the 1960s. The stools embody key traits of Scandinavian mid-century modern design, focusing on practicality, clean lines, and quality materials.
Each stool features a round, padded seat upholstered in the original deep rust-colored fabric, offering both comfort and a warm visual contrast to the brass frame. The brass base consists of a central column with a trumpet-shaped foot that provides stability while maintaining an airy, refined appearance. A circular footrest supported by three evenly spaced brackets adds to the ergonomic design, enhancing comfort for the user.
Johanson Design gained recognition for creating durable, innovative furniture suited for both public and upscale private interiors. Börje Johanson’s work reflects the Scandinavian tradition of combining aesthetic appeal with functional simplicity. The “Classic” stools remain well-regarded examples of this design philosophy.
The stools have developed a natural patina on the brass, consistent with their vintage age and use, which enriches their character. Each stool measures 36 cm in diameter and 76 cm in height (14.2 x 29.9 inches).
