Börje Johanson bar stools
This set of three bar stools was designed by Börje Johanson and produced by Johanson Design in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1960s. The stools combine a teak central column with a cross-shaped base and chrome-plated steel supports that rise to meet the circular footrest, creating a functional yet elegant profile.
The round seats are upholstered in black imitation leather, offering a smooth, durable surface that contrasts with the warm tone of the teak and the reflective chrome elements. The stools are presented in good vintage condition, with signs of use that are consistent with age and add to their authenticity.
Börje Johanson is recognized for his contribution to Scandinavian modern furniture, designing pieces that balanced comfort with a minimal, architectural approach. Johanson Design became known for producing high-quality contract and domestic seating, and these stools exemplify the brand’s attention to detail and craftsmanship.
Each stool measures 35 cm in diameter and 80 cm in height (13.8 x 31.5 inches), making them well-suited for kitchen counters or bar settings. This set represents a complete mid-century seating solution with strong Scandinavian design heritage.
