Börje Johanson bar stools
This is a large set of six bar stools, model Classic, designed by Börje Johanson and produced by Johanson Design in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1960s. The stools feature a tulip-inspired chromed steel base with a circular footrest and a round seat upholstered in black leather. The combination of chrome and leather gives them a distinctly mid-century modern character, balancing sleek industrial materials with comfort.
Börje Johanson was a Swedish designer known for his functional and stylish furniture, often intended for public and private interiors. His collaboration with Johanson Design resulted in a wide range of seating that became highly popular during the 1960s and 1970s, especially for bars, lounges, and modern interiors. Johanson Design, founded in 1953, established itself as a producer of high-quality Scandinavian furniture, focusing on modern forms and durable craftsmanship.
The Classic model reflects the influence of mid-century modernism, with its clean lines, use of chrome-plated metal, and ergonomic seating. The black leather seats, slightly tufted at the center, add both comfort and subtle texture to the otherwise minimalist design. Their height and sturdy construction make them ideal for bar or counter use, while their form contributes to a refined modern interior.
The stools are in good vintage condition, with minor signs of usage consistent with age.
Dimensions are 40 cm in diameter and 80 cm in height (approximately 15.7 x 31.5 inches).
