Information

A striking and sculptural set of three bar stools designed by Börje Johanson and produced by Johanson Design in Markaryd, Sweden during the 1960s. These stools exemplify the playful yet refined modernism characteristic of Scandinavian design from this era, combining elegant materials with bold, organic forms.

Each stool features a polished brass base with a distinctive tulip-shaped foot that provides both stability and visual lightness. The seat and curved backrest are upholstered in smooth black imitation leather, creating a dynamic contrast to the warm metallic tones of the frame. The circular footrest echoes the curvature of the seat, reinforcing the design’s sculptural unity and sense of movement.

The combination of brass and black upholstery lends the stools a sophisticated, almost architectural presence—equally at home in a refined residential setting or a high-end hospitality environment. Their design reflects Johanson’s focus on comfort, proportion, and timeless form, while the patina of the brass surfaces adds a layer of authenticity and depth that enhances their mid-century character.

All three stools are in excellent vintage condition with minor signs of wear consistent with age and use. Together, they represent a rare opportunity to acquire a cohesive set that captures the glamour and innovation of Scandinavian modern design at its peak.

Dimensions are 52 cm wide, 50 cm deep, and 98 cm high, with a seat height of 75 cm (20.5 x 19.7 x 38.6 in; SH 29.5 in)
