Information

This is an iconic “Pernilla 3” lounge chair, designed by Swedish architect and designer Bruno Mathsson in 1944 and produced by Firma Karl Mathsson in Värnamo, Sweden. This example is fully branded, indicating its authenticity and origin.

The chair’s sculptural frame is crafted from laminated birch, expertly bent and joined to create the ergonomic wave-like silhouette for which the Pernilla series is known. The entire seating surface is constructed from hand-braided linen webbing, offering both strength and flexibility. The natural webbing complements the warm tone of the birch frame, emphasizing the Scandinavian design principle of harmony between form and material.

The design incorporates gently curving armrests and an integrated footrest as part of the continuous flowing form. The headrest is fitted with a brown textile cushion, secured with leather straps for both comfort and adjustability. The whole piece is elevated by a finely balanced system of multiple legs to support the elongated chaise structure.

The condition is excellent with only small signs of usage and light patina in line with age. All joints are solid, and the webbing remains taut and clean. The branded mark “Firma Karl Mathsson, Made in Värnamo – Sweden” is clearly visible on the underside of the frame.

Dimensions: 64 cm wide x 170 cm deep x 90 cm high. Seat height is 30 cm (25.2 × 66.9 × 35.4 in, SH: 11.8 in).
