Carl Fagerlund attrib. ceiling lamp
This rare ceiling lamp is attributed to Carl Fagerlund and was produced by Orrefors in Sweden during the 1950s. It features a circular brass frame that supports a sculptural glass diffuser, suspended by three delicate brass chains. The thick, textured glass is characteristic of Orrefors’ refined craftsmanship, designed to softly refract and diffuse light, producing a warm and even glow.
The design embodies the luxurious yet restrained elegance typical of mid-century Scandinavian lighting. The interplay between the clear glass structure and the polished brass gives the lamp both visual lightness and material richness. The circular glass element is meticulously cast with a dynamic, organic surface pattern that captures light in multiple directions, showcasing Fagerlund’s sensitivity to material and form.
Carl Fagerlund (1915–2011) was a Swedish lighting designer closely associated with Orrefors Glasbruk, one of Sweden’s most esteemed glassworks. He created a series of refined glass and brass luminaires for both domestic and public interiors, blending modernist geometry with the artisanal precision for which Orrefors was internationally recognized. His designs often balanced technical innovation with the poetic qualities of hand-blown and cast glass.
This example remains in excellent vintage condition with only small signs of age and use. The brass retains a soft patina, and the glass elements are well preserved, contributing to its authentic mid-century character.
