Carl-Harry Stålhane floor vase
This unique ceramic floor vase was designed by Carl-Harry Stålhane and produced by Rörstrand in Sweden during the 1960s. It exemplifies mid-century Scandinavian design with pronounced Brutalist influences. The vase features an elongated, slightly tapered form with a narrow cylindrical neck, imparting a sculptural and architectural presence. Its surface is finished with an earthy, multi-tonal glaze combining deep browns, greens, and muted grays, resulting in a raw, organic character.
Carl-Harry Stålhane was one of Sweden’s most esteemed ceramicists, celebrated for his ability to harmonize form and glaze with exceptional precision. His work at Rörstrand often embraced restrained modernist aesthetics, highlighting the natural qualities of ceramic materials. This vase reflects the Brutalist movement’s focus on raw textures and substantial, monolithic forms, while maintaining the refined craftsmanship characteristic of Scandinavian mid-century ceramics.
The vase is in good vintage condition, with minor signs of use including a small nick on the bottom ledge. The variations in glaze enhance its unique, handcrafted appearance. Its substantial height makes it a commanding statement piece.
The dimensions are 17 centimeters in diameter and 63 centimeters in height (6.7 x 24.8 inches).
