Information

This rare ceramic vase, designed by Carl-Harry Stålhane and produced by Rörstrand in Sweden during the 1960s, embodies the elegance and restraint characteristic of Scandinavian modern design. The vase features an elongated, organic form with a slender neck that subtly flares at the rim, flowing into a softly rounded teardrop-shaped body.

The glaze is a deep, earthy brown with a smooth, semi-matte finish, transitioning into a darker, near-black hue toward the base. This gentle gradient enhances the vase’s sculptural presence and emphasizes its refined curvature. The underside is unglazed, revealing the natural ceramic material, and bears the Rörstrand hallmark along with Stålhane’s monogram, affirming its authenticity.

Carl-Harry Stålhane (1920–1990) was a leading figure in Swedish ceramics, known for his sophisticated shapes and innovative glaze techniques. Joining Rörstrand in the 1940s and becoming its chief designer in the 1950s, he played a pivotal role in the development of mid-century Swedish ceramic art, focusing on minimalist, organic forms and refined stoneware finishes.

Rörstrand, established in 1726, is one of Europe’s most prestigious porcelain manufacturers, instrumental in advancing Scandinavian modernism through collaborations with visionary designers like Stålhane.

Measuring 11.5 cm in diameter and 28.5 cm in height (4.5 x 11.2 inches), the vase is in excellent condition with no visible chips, cracks, or restorations, preserving the integrity of its original design and finish.
