Carl-Harry Stålhane vase
This ceramic vase was designed by Carl-Harry Stålhane and produced by Rörstrand in Sweden during the 1950s. Crafted from stoneware, the vase features a dark brown to nearly black matte glaze with subtle warm undertones. Lighter highlights along the rim and contours add depth and an organic texture to the surface. The form is slender and symmetrical, with a gently flaring base and top that taper inward to a narrow waist, creating a soft hourglass silhouette.
The vase is in very good condition, showing minimal signs of age or use and retaining its original finish and glaze integrity. Carl-Harry Stålhane (1920–1990) was a leading figure in Swedish ceramics and played a significant role at Rörstrand, where he succeeded Gunnar Nylund as artistic director in the 1950s. His work is characterized by sculptural minimalism paired with subtle glaze techniques, exemplified by this piece.
Rörstrand, established in 1726, is one of Europe’s oldest porcelain manufacturers and gained prominence in the 20th century through collaborations with modernist designers. This vase’s style aligns with Scandinavian mid-century modernism, highlighting simplicity of form, natural materials, and a restrained color palette.
The vase measures 5.5 cm in diameter and 20.5 cm in height, approximately 2.2 inches wide by 8.1 inches tall.
