Information

This ceramic vase was designed by Carl-Harry Stålhane and produced by Rörstrand in Sweden during the 1950s. Made from stoneware, the vase is finished with a soft matte glaze in pale yellow, exhibiting natural tonal variations and fine mottling that contribute to its tactile and organic appearance. The form is bulbous at the base, gradually narrowing into a long, slender neck with a small circular opening. Its overall silhouette resembles a teardrop or seed pod, emphasizing balance and fluidity.

The vase is in very good condition with no visible cracks or restorations, showing only minor wear consistent with age. Carl-Harry Stålhane (1920–1990) was a central figure in Swedish postwar ceramic design and played a key role in shaping Rörstrand’s mid-20th-century identity. Having initially worked under Gunnar Nylund, he succeeded him as artistic director and developed a style characterized by restrained elegance, refined glazing techniques, and sculptural precision.

Rörstrand, founded in 1726, is one of Sweden’s most historically significant porcelain and stoneware manufacturers. The company gained particular renown during the mid-century period through collaborations with leading Scandinavian designers like Stålhane, who contributed significantly to its international reputation.

This vase reflects Scandinavian modernism’s principles through its minimalist form, naturalistic glaze, and meticulous craftsmanship. It measures 7.5 cm in diameter and 13 cm in height, approximately 3 inches wide by 5.1 inches tall.
