Ceiling lamp
A rare Swedish flush mount ceiling lamp from the 1940s, defined by its refined simplicity and carefully balanced proportions. The design centers around a broad, shallow bowl-shaped shade in glass, executed with fine radial etching that subtly emphasizes the geometry and creates a delicate sense of movement across the surface. This understated decorative detail becomes particularly pronounced when illuminated, casting a soft, atmospheric glow.
The fixture features a double glass construction, with an inner diffuser enclosed by the larger outer shade. This layered composition ensures an even and glare-free light distribution, producing a warm and ambient illumination that enhances the surrounding space. The opaline glass presents a soft white tone when unlit, transitioning into a rich, warm hue once illuminated.
A minimal brass mounting anchors the lamp to the ceiling, consisting of a conical canopy and a small, centrally positioned finial beneath the shade. The brass elements display a gentle patina with natural variations in tone, ranging from muted gold to slightly darker accents, complementing the softness of the glass and reinforcing the lamp’s period character.
With a diameter of 52 cm and a height of 29 cm, corresponding to approximately 20.5 inches in diameter and 11.4 inches in height, the lamp maintains a low profile while still offering a substantial visual presence. The condition is good, with minor signs of wear consistent with age, including light surface marks to the brass and subtle traces of use on the glass, all contributing to its authentic vintage appeal.
