Desk / dining table
This is a rare rustic desk or dining table produced in Sweden during the 1940s, crafted entirely from solid pine. The table exhibits the robust and honest construction characteristic of Scandinavian rustic-modern design of the era, combining functional practicality with strong geometric presence.
The rectangular tabletop is made from wide, vertically grained pine planks that display a vivid and expressive natural pattern, with warm amber and golden tones that are typical of aged pine. The surface reveals a rich patina developed over decades of use, contributing to the table’s tactile and visual appeal. Below the top, two integrated drawers are housed symmetrically within the apron, offering discreet storage and emphasizing the utilitarian origins of the design.
The base is defined by two sturdy vertical supports connected by a solid stretcher, resting on wide sled-like feet with curved inner corners. This architectural support structure reflects a traditional Nordic approach to table making, where stability and simplicity were prioritized, and decorative elements were minimized. The legs and stretchers are designed with gentle curves and softened edges, contrasting subtly with the otherwise rectilinear form.
The piece is in good vintage condition with visible but minor signs of usage consistent with age. The tabletop retains natural wear, including small surface marks, adding to the authenticity and historic character of the table.
Dimensions are 170 cm in width, 69.5 cm in depth, and 75 cm in height (66.9 x 27.4 x 29.5 inches). The scale and proportions allow it to function either as a desk or as a compact dining table, well suited for a domestic interior or a studio setting. The style is emblematic of Swedish mid-century design values, blending vernacular craftsmanship with functionalist clarity.
