Information

A rare freestanding desk designed by Severin Hansen and produced by Haslev Møbelsnedkeri in Denmark, executed in teak. The design exemplifies Hansen’s refined and architectural approach, where precision joinery and balanced proportions are central elements.

The desk is constructed with a rectilinear top resting on four slender, slightly tapered legs, creating a light and elegant silhouette. The apron integrates a series of drawers seamlessly into the structure, maintaining a clean and uninterrupted horizontal line. The drawer fronts are fitted with small, discreet pulls, emphasizing the understated aesthetic while allowing the craftsmanship to take precedence.

The teak exhibits a warm, reddish-brown tone with a lively and well-defined grain pattern across the top, where cathedral figuring and linear markings add depth and visual movement. The edges are crisply defined with subtle beveling, enhancing the sense of precision. The legs are finely dimensioned and set flush with the frame, reinforcing the architectural clarity characteristic of Haslev’s cabinetmaking.

The desk features multiple drawers offering practical storage, each crafted with solid wood interiors and traditional joinery, including visible dovetail construction. The interior wood contrasts softly with the darker exterior, highlighting the quality of materials and construction. A maker’s stamp beneath confirms Danish origin and production.

Designed to be freestanding, the desk is finished on all sides, allowing it to function equally well positioned in the center of a room. Its restrained form and high level of craftsmanship place it firmly within the Danish modern tradition of the mid-20th century.

The desk measures approximately 143 cm in width, 75 cm in depth, and 71 cm in height, corresponding to 56.3 x 29.5 x 28 inches. It remains in good vintage condition with small signs of usage, including light surface wear consistent with age, while retaining a well-preserved and even patina.
