Eje Ahlgren table lamps

The pair of table lamps model B-075 was designed by Eje Ahlgren and produced by Bergboms in Sweden during the 1950s. Crafted entirely from brass, these lamps exhibit a restrained yet expressive form characteristic of mid-century Scandinavian lighting design. The design balances functional precision with sculptural simplicity.

Each lamp features a hemispherical brass shade with a polished finish, topped by a small vertical finial. The shade is mounted on a pivoting joint that allows directional adjustment, providing focused lighting as needed. A slender vertical brass stem supports the shade and anchors into a solid circular brass base with a low profile, contributing to the lamp’s balanced proportions. The power switch operates via a brass pull cord hanging beneath the shade, introducing a tactile element and subtle visual rhythm.

The brass surfaces display natural patina and oxidation consistent with age, which adds character and depth to the minimalist design. The overall form is symmetrical and emphasizes balance without any superfluous decoration, embodying the Scandinavian modernist ethos.

Each lamp measures 21 cm in width, 29 cm in depth, and 54 cm in height (approximately 8.3 inches wide, 11.4 inches deep, and 21.3 inches tall). The adjustable dome shade offers practical lighting options while maintaining its sculptural presence when not in use.

Eje Ahlgren was a notable figure in Swedish industrial design during the mid-20th century, contributing to functional and modern lighting solutions. Bergboms, based in Malmö, was a prominent Swedish lighting manufacturer in the 1950s and 60s, collaborating with designers such as Alf Svensson, Anders Pehrson, and Ahlgren himself.

This pair is in good vintage condition, with functioning electrics and naturally aged brass finishes. The B-075 model is distinguished by its combination of utility and sculptural clarity, reflecting both industrial craftsmanship and Nordic modernist design principles.
